Ready to receive a pass, Taylor Owens, a freshman varsity water polo player swims forward towards the goal. The Senior game against Rock Hill provided an opportunity for many freshmen to get playing time. Owens, Quinn Geyter, and June Horton, all freshmen varsity water polo players new to the sport, got lots of opportunities to showcase their improvement from the first tournament. “It was tough because I hadn’t played that much before.” Geyter said, “But after the goal I scored, everything felt so much better.” This was Geyter’s second goal this season.

Catching her breath, Paige Pala, a junior, looks around, preparing for another offensive play. “I think our first home tournament went really well,” Pala said. “We stayed undefeated in that time and we went against Prosper and Midway [on] the same day and that was really tough.” Pala is the Varsity Water Polo co-captain, along with Harper Collins, junior varsity water polo player, and Kajsa Brinkerhoff, senior varsity water polo player.

What’s Next? Water Polo will play their next game against Highland Park at PISD Natatorium on September 26th. Boys water polo team will also play against Jesuit on September 30th.
