Kallie Huck is a senior and a member on track and field. Apart from school, Huck competes in club track for Track Houston and works for Palio’s Pizza.
1. Do you have any hobbies/interests you would like to talk about?
Huck: As a track athlete, I, of course, love running, but I also like to go to the gym. If I have free time, I’m lifting weights or playing sports with my friends. I also like cooking. I cook for my family every week and meal prep when I have time. These are both important to me because they give me a competitive advantage in my sport, helping me get ahead of my competition.
2. Who do you feel most inspires you?
Huck: Dr.Koay and Lauren Lewis are my biggest inspirations. My PCIS mentor Dr. Koay inspires me through his work as an associate professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is incredibly smart and kind, devoting his time to helping both his patients and students. His work and character have inspired me throughout my mentorship. Additionally, Lauren Lewis has been an amazing role model throughout my high school career. Her achievement in track and field is astonishing, as well as her ability to stay focussed as a student athlete. She is a chief candidate in both academia and athletics, and I strive to reach her level of balance and success.
3. Are there any accomplishments you would like to talk about?
Huck: I was selected as WFAA Scholar Athlete of the Week and appeared in a short news segment in which I spoke about my athletic and academic achievements. It was extremely rewarding to win this opportunity and have my accomplishments compiled and expressed in one segment.

4. Do you have a favorite high school memory?
Huck: My favorite high school memory has to be my sophomore year Texas Relays track meet. It was my first time competing at a high level, in front of college coaches. I still remember the adrenaline I got when I took my first step onto the track. We were in the nicest facility I had ever competed in, and the stands were fuller than I had ever seen them. Not only did I run my first 56sec 400m on this track (a major PR), but also had the chance to run with the national lead, Lauren Lewis. To this day, I am incredibly proud of everyone on my team and what we were able to accomplish.
5. Which teacher or staff member had the biggest impact on you? Why?
Huck: Coach Torres and Coach Knight have had the biggest impact on my life, both on and off the field. They have given me advice in tough situations, encouraged me to go after what I wanted, and supported me throughout each of my pursuits. I truly would not be where I am today without the aid of both my coaches.
6. What extracurricular activity are you most proud of participating in?
Huck: I am most proud of my participation in my Track Houston club team. From late nights to early mornings, I have poured myself into track and field. I’ve done three a day practices and sacrificed time with friends and family. Not only have I devoted myself to the sport, but also achieved great things with my team. On Track Houston, I have qualified for New Balance Nationals, won a USATF national championship, been ranked ninth in the nation in the indoor 400m, and become a two time all american.
7. Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give your freshman self?
Huck: I would tell myself to enjoy the process. Throughout my highschool years, I have been extremely goal oriented. While this has helped me get to where I am today, I wish I would have slowed down and spent more time appreciating each practice and moment with my friends. It does really go by fast.
8. What are you most excited about in this next phase of your life?
Huck: I’m most excited about the chance to be on my own. While I am incredibly grateful for the support my family has given me, I am excited to be able to grow independently, and, especially as a twin, learn myself outside from others.
9. Do you have any upcoming travel plans or adventures?
Huck: Over the summer, I will be traveling to Madrid, Spain. I am super excited to explore and learn new cultures and customs.
10. As a senior, what are your future plans or aspirations?
Huck: I plan to major in biomedical engineering and compete in D1 track and field.
