Formal Dresses line in racks at Runway Fashion House in the Gates of Prosper. Runway sells dresses of all kinds for many different occasions, like homecoming and prom. Dresses are documented to ensure the same dress won’t be sold from their store for the same school's prom.
Prom will be held on April 26 at the FC Dallas Toyota Hall of Fame from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets can be bought through a QR code available through email and flyers. Tickets must be bought by 11:59 p.m. tonight.
Sophomore English teacher Sarah Garcia started the prom committee and brought on her friend and fellow co-worker, Haley Felemt-Hill.
“In the summer of last year, I got a text from Ms Viars saying, ‘Hey, would you like to coordinate prom this year?’” Garcia said. “I said if I could bring a partner, a friend, on with me, I would. So I asked one of my closest friends [Haley Felmet], and she said ‘absolutely yes.’”
The dance started to be planned and would be based on the theme picked by the Student Council, which is old-fashioned Hollywood.
The plan for prom centered around the theme Old-Fashion Hollywood, picked by the Student Council
“I think it goes well too, with the whole entire idea of prom,” senior Remi Richardson said. “When I think of Hollywood, I think of long dresses, glam, and a night of elegance.”
There will be a red carpet at the front to signal the entrance into the dance and to take pictures. The dance will provide caricature drawing, poker tables, a photo booth, food, drinks, and more.
“When you imagine prom, you think of that real classic look,” Garcia said. You go and take your picture, and then you go to the event and enjoy everything it has to offer. That’s what we’re doing this year that is different from last year. So we’re really excited about that.”
Ticket prices are $85 for students.
“We don’t want to put a lot of stress on student wallets or parent wallets, but at the same time, we do want to offer an experience that will leave a lasting impression as these kids leave high school,” Felmet said. “So finding that balance between how we’re going to get the funds to create this experience, but also keep the price reasonable has been difficult.”
Prom has been difficult to plan. It’s hard to work out between all the committees, like the student council, that help run the dance.
“There’s been so much back and forth on things that we want to include, like color schemes or where everything’s going to get set up,” Garcia said. “But it’s really cool to kind of see the process unfold, and then to be able to witness the finished product from all of our hard work.”
There are good things that came out of planning prom, and the advisors’ efforts will pay off. Felmet and Garcia went to the location where prom will be held to figure out where all the pieces will go for the dance.
“When we did our final walk through, it was good to see that everything that had been so disjointed was going to have a place, and will go together,” Felmet said. “I think that has been the moment where it’s felt like it all fell into place and we finally got to see where all of our hard work will go, and that was just amazing.”
This dance will be special for the two sophomore teachers to see former students at the dance.
“All of my kids that I taught last year are now juniors, and they’re going to prom this year, and that’s going to be the best thing for me,” Garcia said.. “It will be amazing to see my kids that I taught go and have fun and enjoy themselves, because then I will know that our hard work has paid off. ” off.”
