Wildcat varsity football starts its season at 5-0. Strong offensive and defensive efforts have led to the Grove averaging seven sacks a game while averaging over 274 rushing yards per game.
Coach Allison attributes this success to the hard work of his defense.
“Yeah, it’s been a great start to our season. I think one of the biggest difference that we’ve seen is a great improvement defensively,” Coach Allison said. “Our guys worked really hard. So we’ve gotten bigger, faster, stronger so that physically we are doing a much better job getting to the ball.”
This season the Walnut Grove defence has only let up 38 points in our first 4 games of the season while having two shut outs. Junior Defensive End D.J Henderson-Reynolds believes that the work the defense put in during this off season is helping the defense continue to play well.
“It really started in December we were working out five times a week and everybody on both sides of the ball,” D.J. said. “especially our defense put in a tremendous amount of work this off season”
This season our offense has been well protected as the Wildcats Offensive Line have allowed one sack all season. Junior and center, John Robin, revealed that this season’s offensive successes were hard earned.
“This season everyone has been putting in work,” Robin said. “whether it is on the field or in the weight room everyone has been working to make themselves and the team better.”
Thursday nights game ended in a 70-10 victory against memorial.
