Tanya Wesley is a junior in the Walnut Grove High school band and was previously a member of the Rock Hill band. She is a member of the leadership team within the WGHS Band and has been part of the band program for 6 years.

1. What instrument do you play and how did you pick it?

Wesley: Clarinet, I chose it because I fell in love with it the first time I got to try it out.

2. Do you plan on continuing music after high school?

Wesley: I plan on pursuing it as an extracurricular activity in college but not as a major.

3. Who do you feel most inspires you?

Wesley: I feel like the person that inspires me the most is my mother because she shows me constantly the reward that comes from hard work.

4. What is your favorite band memory?

Wesley: My favorite high school memory is getting to go to San Antonio and getting to put on a show that I truly feel I put everything on the table when I walked off of the field.

5. What is your favorite piece of music to play, and why does it stand out to you ?

Wesley: My favorite piece of music to play is Khan, this is because the composer does an absolutely fantastic job with painting a mental image through the flow of her music.

6. Do you prefer marching season or concert season? Why?

Wesley: Marching season, I prefer it over concert season because I love how close the band becomes over the hours we spend together and how everyone is working towards a common goal of putting on a good performance whilst getting better with each rehearsal.

7. How has being in a band impacted your school experience?

Wesley: Band has impacted my school experience because it opened a doorway to meeting other people from different grades and different social groups, which I don’t think would have happened if it weren’t for the teamwork aspect and the hours we spend at a time together

8. What are you looking forward to the most in your senior year?

Wesley: The thing I look forward to the most for my senior year is being able to leave the program as a better place in which people find themselves in a comforting community, and by doing so, I will have succeeded in fulfilling the goal I set for myself when I took on leadership within the program.
