Sophomore, Abby Ryan moved to Texas this year from Missouri. Since moving, she has settled into the Walnut Grove Tennis Team. Ryan is also involved in competitive cheer.
How was your transition from Missouri to Texas?
I’ve lived in Texas for 14 years of my life, so it has felt so good to come back. I truly love it here. I love the school, my friends, and the Prosper environment.
How do you balance cheer, tennis, and academics?
I do my best to get most of my homework done at school because I usually have practices or other extracurriculars. Because I moved here in August, I missed the tryouts for the school cheer season, which has allowed me to focus a lot on school and spend much more time with friends than I usually have.
Who inspires you the most?
The people who inspire me the most are definitely my parents. They have always worked so hard to set an example for me, and they are the most influential people in my life.
What is your advice to incoming freshmen?
I would definitely suggest learning the layout of the building. Once you figure out which hallway is which (English, Math, Science, History, etc.) you can find any class. The hardest part of coming to Walnut Grove was finding my way to class.
What has been your favorite memory at Walnut Grove so far?
My favorite memory so far this year has been our pickleball tournament for tennis. I met some of my closest friends in tennis, and I’m so grateful for every practice we’ve had together. The pickleball tournament was an opportunity to just have fun with friends and play around.
How long have you done cheer and tennis?
I have cheered my entire life. I’ve been on sidelines since I was 4 or 5, and I have tumbled since second grade and began competitive cheerleading in eighth grade. I’ve played tennis on and off my entire life, but I decided to take it seriously and join the tennis team my freshman year.
