Last Thursday, March 26, 2026, the Girls Varsity Soccer team won its playoff game against Midlothian 1-0 at Homer B. Johnson Stadium. There were 25 minutes left in the game, and no one had scored a goal. That was until Brynlie Ward scored the team’s only goal in the game.
“I’m really proud of my team and how we played, but it was really hard to connect our passes in the final third and to get our final goal, thankfully. I was really relieved when I scored,” said freshman Brynlie Ward.
This playoff was the regional semifinal, which took them to the regional final game. This game also keeps their streak of shutouts in the playoffs, with their previous games being against Mount Pleasant (8-0) and Highland Park (2-0).
“I feel like we’re not really shocked considering our goalie is a Brown [University] commit, and she’s really good, and we have a really solid backline,” said senior Katie Simms.
The most recent game, the regional final, was at Children’s Health Stadium in Prosper against Reedy, and the score was 2-0. By winning this playoff, they move onto state semifinals.
“I think our defense will hold up really strong, like we normally do, and our offense will really attack the other team. I think overall our team is going to play really well together,” said senior Avery Lamar.
The team is currently training to make sure they secure the win in their next playoff game.
“Right now we’re going through and breaking down a lot of film, kind of studying our opponent,” said Coach Patterson, “We’re going through and actually practicing some of those strategies on the field and just kind of making sure our bodies are recuperated a little bit.”
The next game in the playoffs are state semifinals against Centennial on April 3rd at Keller ISD Athletics Complex at 3:00 pm.
