On Monday, April 13, Prosper ISD presented fashion design students from all four high schools. The theme of this year’s fashion show was “Rooted In Nature”.
“This Fashion Show is trying to tell a story on how young designers can express their emotions through just nature and how they feel,” senior Stefan Agulleria said.
These outfits took weeks to make. The fashion students prepared outfits that focus on the story they are trying to convey.
“My first dress took me three weeks because I had to hand-sew crystals along the top. And then my second one took me a week because it was a shorter dress,” sophomore Addison Branson said.
These outfits are far from being unplanned. They were inspired by the different aspects of nature, such as the ocean, land and even food.
“I’d say the first outfit was actually based on an album cover by Red Velvet. So it’s literally just their representative fruits. And then the vegetable dress was because my friend joked that fruits and veggies are so cute,” junior Jillian Pyle said.
While the final products looked seamless on the runway, the construction process was very extensive and had technical challenges.
“During my sewing process, there were some parts where I got kind of confused and [it] kind of took me a while to get some stuff done, but I just kept on going, and I got it done,” said senior Stefan Agulleria.
Fashion design also involves a lot that goes on behind the scenes, not just creating the outfit. Fashion students have to study many different techniques, such as pattern reading and garment construction.
“So when they get to Fashion 2, they’re just working on learning how to actually read the patterns because they come with instructions on how to put together a full garment,” fashion design teacher Emily Thomas said. Obviously, there are still some skills that they didn’t learn in Fashion 1 that go above and beyond what they need for garment construction.
The fashion Design class had a very productive year and will continue creating different designs.
