1. What idea or message did you want your art pieces to communicate?
I wanted to talk about what a possible world would be like if we lived in an underwater society. Not only just what it would look like but also the social and environmental changes
2. What was the hardest part of creating the work, and how did you solve

that problem?
Definitely brain storming ideas. I honestly would solve those by thinking about them late into the night until something clicked, or talking to my friends and brainstorming concepts together in class
3. How did you get interested in art?
I’ve been doing art all throughout my life and often would be tasked with doing the artsy jobs at home or in projects. I thought it would be fun to do this class as a senior as I hadn’t gotten to previous years
- Have you ever competed in VASE before? What is it like?
Yes I competed freshman year and honestly it was pretty quick. It was fun to sit with my friends and talk about our art works as we waited. The interview process was also really interesting as it gave me a moment to talk about my art and my process.
- What was your inspiration for your pieces?
I have always loved the ocean and its sea creatures. Whenever making art I am always drawn to make something ocean related as well, so this felt like a perfect way to use my creativity while doing what I love

6. How did you develop your style?
Definitely many years of doodles in class, attempting to learn from others, and a lot of trial and error. I am even still learning now and am still developing my style.
- How does VASE work?
Vase is a competition where we get our art pieces judged along with students from multiple different schools. We participate in an interview where we talk about our piece and the process, then get scored based on our answers and our artistry on our pieces.
- How do you prepare for art shows?
Practicing interviewing skills is really important especially for Vase. I like to go over the questions with a friend and pretend we were in the interview process and they were the judges.
- Why do these pieces matter to you?
I have always loved the ocean. I grew up going to the beach and when I was little my go to show was always something ocean related. The ocean is so complex to me and I love not only its beauty but the mystery surrounding it. Being able to create concepts of a world where the ocean and humanity merged has been so much fun and really allowed me to explore the lengths of my creative skills.

- What are your future art goals? New projects
I really want to keep exploring this theme and possibly paint a couple more pieces this summer. There are still a couple areas I haven’t explored regarding my fish human world, and I’m excited to keep experimenting this summer!
- What are your next steps?
I will be going to Baylor University to study Communication Sciences and Disorders! Go Bears!
